Short Breaks Project
Our Specialist Short Breaks are for children and young people aged 8-19 years, who have moderate, severe and profound learning disabilities. We run weekend clubs during term-time and playschemes during school holidays in Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge & Malling.
Every session is overseen by an experienced coordinator and a high level of staff and volunteers, with most children receiving 1:1 support. All services are run in purpose-built buildings with appropriate facilities for our children and young people. They are safe and secure and offer a wide range of accessible activities. Occasionally, we are lucky enough to awarded additional funding which enables us to offer trips and activities in the community.
Referrals can be made directly to us either by parents/carers or an appropriate professional, for example a social worker. Spaces are prioritised once a year in February/March. Each child is allocated to an appropriate group based on evaluation of their individual needs. All our clubs require a parental contribution of £4 per hour. Sessions are booked and paid for in advance to ensure that we have the correct staffing in place.
Our Saturday Club runs on a fortnightly basis in Tunbridge Wells. There are two sessions per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, both of which last three hours.
We have two Sunday Clubs, which run in Tonbridge & Malling. One follows the same structure of two three-hourly sessions every fortnight. The other runs once a month for five hours.
All our weekend clubs run during term-time.
We run our playscheme four to six days per week during the school holidays, split between Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge & Malling. Sessions typically last five hours.
Each child is allocated approximately one day a week, either for the summer or for every school holiday.
